We rebuilt CritiqueMyDance.
Not a redesign. A rebuild.
If it's been a while since you logged in, the app you'd find today is not the one you left. Over the past two weeks every screen has been torn down and built again - the website, your dashboard, your videos, your messages, the way a critique looks when it lands, and the entire workspace your coach uses to make it.
Here's what changed.
It works on your phone now
This is the big one. CritiqueMyDance was a desktop product. It isn't anymore.
The whole app - browsing coaches, requesting a critique, watching what comes back, messaging your coach - now works properly on a phone. And as of this week, so does the coach's side: a coach can watch your video, draw on it, record a voice-over, and deliver a full critique from their phone.
We still think the coach UI experience for voice-over and draw is best on desktop but if you're on the go, now you have the option to do it on your phone.
For dancers
Request a critique without leaving your dashboard. Pick your coach, drop in a video or choose one from your library, write your note, send. It's a quick modal now, not a page you get sent away to.
Send the same performance to more than one coach. A second set of eyes on the same routine used to be impossible - a clip could only be used once. Now it can go to whoever you want.
Your critique reads like something someone made for you. The coach's response video, their written read, key strengths, growth opportunities, all in one place.
Find the right coach. Search across name, discipline, credentials, region, or country - "ballroom champion" returns only coaches who are both.
Know when it's coming. Every coach now sets their own committed turnaround, and you see it before you book - not a generic promise.
Your purchases, with real receipts. A clean history of everything you've bought, each one linking to its official Stripe receipt.
Small things that were quietly annoying. A video that fails to upload now tells you, instead of spinning on "Processing" forever. Resetting your password signs you straight in rather than dumping you back at the login screen.
For coaches
One workspace, three steps. Critique authoring is now a single guided flow - Analyze → Write → Review & submit - with autosave throughout and a deliberate slide-to-deliver at the end. No more jumping between an edit form and a separate analysis tool.
Player controls built for dance. Frame-smooth scrubbing and playback from 0.25× to 2×. Slow a triple pirouette to a quarter speed and show exactly where the weight goes.
Draw, record, and take private notes. Annotate the video by hand, record a voice-over take, and keep timecoded private notes as you watch.
Go live in eight guided steps. New coach onboarding walks you from identity through credentials, bio, intro video, pricing and payouts to an explicit go-live. Save and finish later at any point.
Get paid without the setup blocking your dancer. Previously, delivering a critique before finishing Stripe onboarding failed - and left a paying student with nothing. Now the critique delivers immediately and your payout settles automatically the moment you're payable.
Set your own turnaround. Anywhere from 24 hours to two weeks. Dancers see it before they book, so expectations are yours to set.
Bring your own students. Your profile now carries a personal referral link and a live count of students who joined through it.
See your money. A new Setup & billing page shows your Stripe status and your live available and pending balances.
